The Territory

The ancient sculptured image of a lion on the rock which guards the houses below, welcomes visitotors arriving at Cerami via the main 120 road from Troina. A series of small roads, unchanged for centuries, seem to have been deliberately designed to take you directly to the church of San Sebastiano, from the parvis of which you see the town slowly exetending downwards and the countryside expanding over the horizon. From there, go up through the narrow streets of the old town centre, till you reach the main church dedicated to St. Ambrogio, situated on the highest point of the town. The prospectus of the recent construction (1925) conceals the 16th century construction, already restored in the 18th century. A little farther on you reach the castle, or rather what remains of it. Among the works of art on display are, a sculpture of Gagini and a painting of Velasquez kept in the beautiful church of San Benedetto. Cerami is the only district in the province of Enna which lies in the conservation area of the Nebrodi Park. On entering the Park, drive along the provincial road, or on foot, along the paths which lead into the woods, and you will find yourself in an inconceivable environment in Sicily. From Partella dell'Obolo (1503m above sea level) you can reach the stream of Nocita, a well equipped area run by the State Foresty Commission, where the green woods and fresh water are a relaxing break during the summer months.
