ENNA – S.FRANCESCO CHURCH

The church of S.Francesco of Assisi rises on a spur of rock . It is the only work remaining from the originary construction that, dues for the many changes it suffered along the centuries, has changed completely its look. Actually the bell-tower , opened by a sort of an open gallery in the inferior order and by some windows of round arch in the two superior ones was added in the fifteenth century. The structure of this church seems to be a portress more than a temple of prayers and it stands to the ancient building Chiaramonte’s. Inside, which is developed upon a single aisle, you can admire the presbytery painted during the seventeenth century and upon the holy arch that precedes it hang down a wooden crucifix, painted upon both the faces, it is assigned to the painter of the fifteenth century, Pietro Ruzzolone. Furthermore upon the walls which introduce to the eighteenth century wooden choir, there are the nativity and Maria’s assumption by Francesco Ciotti.
